My Fish Bowl: 2012

One of my milestone in 2012 is that I join the Taipei designer's week. 2012 September, I exhibited an interactive art installation at Taipei designer's week. My partner and I had been preparing for this since April 2012. We both are working, so we used free time after work or weekend to have meeting and work on these stuffs. Staring from proposing the ideas to the organizer, and we kept generating and refining ideas till it done.

Our installation is " Magic cinema". Within the theme of our exhibition "Old cinema", our idea is to imitate the old cinema atmosphere with traditional projecting techniques and modern technologies, and create an interactive environment that people can enjoy and have fun.

As the following first instruction image, this installation requires at least two people to play. One person should stands in front of the "box", and the other stand inside the frame. The person stands in front of the box is able to see the other person inside the box with some effects and animations. He can direct the person stands inside the frame to do some actions that will match up with the effects and animation he sees. People will interact with each other by their creativity, and we also provide some stage props for them to play with.

"Old cinema is used to be a public entertainment where people gather together to enjoy and have fun. After watching a movie, audiences usually have their own perception and interpretation which differs from their own life experience. By utilizing old projecting techniques and new technologies, this interactive installation tries to recreate the nostalgic experience of watching the movie in the old cinema environment, and the gap between reality and virtual reality would be shortened when the traditional methods, modern technologies and creative ideas are combined and integrated. Moreover, we hope the audiences could understand the ancient techniques of showing movies after interacting with our installation and, of course, we hope it can entertain the audiences when they interact with it, and every audience will have their own personal impression after all."
